Look closely at the facade of Altes Araghaus. The building standing tall and imposing, is a testament to the architectural styles of the 1950s. This iconic landmark is on the street Heinrichstrasse 155. It was built in 1956 by the architect Helmut Rhode. The structure is known for its Y-shaped design with three concave facades. The glass-paneled facade is a signature element of the era. The building’s three curved facades are a stark contrast to the three solid, brick walls. Altes Araghaus was once the main office building of the ARAG insurance company. The building is a significant symbol of the city’s history. It once stood next to the ARAG Terrassenhaus. The ARAG Terrassenhaus was demolished and replaced by the ARAG Tower. The original building has been designated a protected landmark. Although demolished, the old ARAG Terrassenhaus with its tiered floors was a defining feature of the area. It is interesting, almost symbolic, how the iconic ARAG Tower now stands on the site of the old ARAG Terrassenhaus. This reflects the city’s transformation and progress.
