Have you ever felt the thrill of discovering a hidden gem? Hermanns-Blick is just that. It’s a viewpoint above Lake Baldeney a nameless spot until a group of hikers decided to name it in the 1990s.
Hermanns-Blick isn’t just a pretty view. It’s a story whispered on the wind. Located in the Schellenberger Wald forest south of Essen it’s a place of peace reached only on foot or by bike. Imagine the quiet crunch of gravel under your boots. Feel the sun on your face as you climb the unpaved path. Below you is the bustling activity near Lake Baldeney. Above is the tranquil forest.
The name Hermanns-Blick itself is a tribute. It’s named after Hermann a beloved friend who passed away. His friends Alfons Horn and others immortalized his memory. They painted the name Hermanns-Blick on the stones below the viewpoint. You can still make out the letters Alfo a reminder of Alfons Horn’s role in this naming. In an interview with Radio Essen Alfons shared this story. He revealed that they named the viewpoint in 1993 painting the name on the wall three years later.
Hermanns-Blick isn’t just for hikers. It offers lovers a secluded and wildly romantic spot. Two trees stand as silent witnesses. Their bark etched with the initials of countless couples. They show the enduring power of love. The trees create a living testament to the moments shared at this special place.
