Founded in 1942 by Reverend Leonard W Coote International Bible College stands as a testament to faith and perseverance. It wasn’t just a school it was a beacon. A place where spiritual seekers found their path.

Coote a Pentecostal missionary to Japan established the college amidst the turmoil of World War II. His missionary work in Japan was interrupted. He envisioned a similar Bible training center in the United States. He chose San Antonio. He built the college on ten acres atop Hallelujah Hill. It overlooked the city a fitting location for a place of worship and learning.

The college flourished. In 1965 it boasted fourteen buildings. Its library held a remarkable 3000 volumes. By 1995 this number grew to twenty-seven. It offered various programs including a Bachelor of Theology degree and a Bachelor of Religious Education degree. It even considered itself nonsectarian. It was affiliated with Oral Roberts University Educational Fellowship.

However its success was not without challenges. The college lacked regional accreditation. This led to scrutiny from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. It lost its ability to grant degrees in 1992. Its name changed to International Bible Center. Enrollment dwindled. It finally closed in 2010.

Despite its closure International Bible College left an enduring legacy. It trained numerous individuals. It impacted countless lives. It served as a hub for spiritual growth in San Antonio. Its story is a blend of success struggle and ultimately faith. It stands as a reminder of the enduring power of belief and the challenges faced by institutions of faith. It’s a poignant story. A story worth remembering.
