Bet you didn’t expect to find the official practice facility of the Boston Bruins here in Brighton. This is Warrior Ice Arena. More than just a training ground for the pros, Warrior Ice Arena is a hub for skaters of all levels. It’s a place where community and athletic excellence meet.
Warrior Ice Arena stands as a testament to Boston’s love for hockey. The arena is part of the Boston Landing development. New Balance’s headquarters are here. You will also find shops and a hotel. The Auerbach Center is next door.
Completed in September 2016, Warrior Ice Arena quickly became a significant landmark. The arena got its name from New Balance’s Warrior Sports brand. This brand specializes in hockey products. Before Warrior Ice Arena, the Bruins practiced elsewhere. They used Harvard University’s Bright-Landry Hockey Center. They also practiced at Ristuccia Ice Arena in Wilmington.
The arena itself is designed to NHL standards. Elkus-Manfredi designed it. It can accommodate 650 spectators. Here you can watch professional Bruins practice sessions. You can also view amateur and intercollegiate competitions. Public events are also common. The 74000-square-foot facility includes more than just the ice. There is retail space here and a concession concourse. Function rooms are available. This is the Bruins’ non-game day home.
Notice the 220-foot-long curtain wall. It makes a dramatic statement along the Massachusetts Turnpike. It is highly visible to commuters entering and leaving Boston. The arena connects to 80 Guest Street. New Balance Headquarters is accessible via a landscaped terrace.
Warrior Ice Arena isn’t just for the pros. It’s open to the public. You can find hockey and skating programs here year-round. Special events are also common. People celebrate birthdays and host fundraisers here.
Inside the third-floor lobby, there is a special display. It showcases the partnership between Warrior, New Balance, and the Boston Bruins. Fair Folk designed a life-sized sculpture of the Bruins bear logo. It uses items from all three brands. The items include current and historical pieces.
Look up and you will see the third largest hockey stick in the world. Diamond Iron Works in Lawrence, Mass created it. The stick is 68 feet tall. It weighs 7000 pounds. Warrior Hockey is the preferred stick brand of many NHL players. Every August, the stick gets rebranded. This showcases the newest product from Warrior.
Warrior Ice Arena also participates in recycling. They have a donation program. People can donate old equipment. The arena evaluates and washes the gear. This makes it available for reuse.
