Ravenswell. A name whispered through the corridors of time, echoing with the laughter of generations. Ravenswell in Bray isn’t just a place; it’s a living storybook. Here, on the grounds of what was once the residence of Lord Meath, the Religious Sisters of Charity ignited a spark of knowledge over a century ago. Ravenswell Primary School first opened its doors in August 1901, in the converted stables of Ravenswell House. Can you imagine those first 33 pupils, their eyes wide with the promise of learning? They delved into English, Arithmetic, Singing, and Catechism, laying the foundation for countless futures. Ravenswell witnessed the changing tides of time. In 1958, the main building rose from the ground, a testament to the dedication of the Sisters. They raised a substantial sum of £5,500, a significant feat in those days, with the Department of Education contributing the rest. The school expanded again in 1978, embracing the growing community. Ravenswell continued to evolve. In 2001, it celebrated its centenary and was briefly renamed St. Philomena’s Primary School. But the spirit of Ravenswell remained, woven into the very fabric of the community. Then, in a leap forward, Ravenswell moved to a brand new facility in 2018, on the grounds of the former Dargle View Golf Club. This marked a new chapter, a testament to Ravenswell’s commitment to nurturing young minds. The official opening in 2020, by the Minister for Education, was a celebration of the past and a beacon of hope for the future. Ravenswell stands today, a testament to the enduring power of education and community.
