The Espacio de Reflexión at Tecnológico de Monterrey is more than just a building. It symbolizes the evolution of education. It shows a shift towards holistic human development. The immediate inspiration was Punto Blanco. This was a space for meditation reflection and introspection.
Construction began in December 2018. It concluded in February 2020. The inauguration took place on February 18 2020.
Alberto Kalach a renowned Mexican architect designed it. His team created an environment of peace. They used simple lines and thoughtful water and light features. These encourage introspection. They promote connection.
The Espacio de Reflexión is between Building I and Building VIII. Its unique architecture makes it a campus landmark. Kalach found inspiration in nature. He made the Cerro de la Silla a focal point. It frames the mountain beautifully. It invites meditation and reflection on nature.
Inside the Espacio de Reflexión you will find three distinct areas. There is an upper-level agora. There is an outdoor garden area. There is an interior space called Punto Blanco. Each area encourages introspection. They help users connect with themselves and others.
The minimalist design promotes peace. It honors nature. It aims to touch visitors deeply. Stepping inside can shift your mood. It provides a pause from daily life. This building achieves that goal.
Eva Gonda Rivera generously contributed to the project. She participated in every stage. The space honors her husband Don Eugenio Garza Lagüera. He was chairman of the Tecnológico de Monterrey from 1973 to 1997.
At the Espacio de Reflexión you can meditate in Punto Blanco. You can stroll through the gardens. You can view Cerro de la Silla from the agora. Together these experiences foster peace. They build well-being for the Tec community.
The building covers 596 square meters. Its footprint spans 3800 square meters. The structure uses pigmented architectural concrete. It features exposed finishes. Load-bearing walls of 40 cm thickness support reinforced slabs.
One challenge was building a conical skylight. It had a 3-meter initial diameter. It narrowed to 2.2 meters. It stood 2.3 meters tall. Finnish wood was chosen for the skylight’s framework. It provided the required finish. Carpenters assembled the wood. A crane lifted it into place.
