Picture this. A small Sunday school meeting in a humble home. That was the seed. The humble beginning of Unity Baptist Church in Houston. It was March 1938. The small gathering quickly outgrew its space. A building was leased. Then in December 1939 Unity Baptist Church of Houston was officially formed. The church flourished. By the 1970s a large bus ministry was in full swing. New buildings were constructed to accommodate the hundreds who attended weekly services.
Unity Baptist Church wasn’t always in its current location. For many years it served the community from Humble Texas. In 2002 a significant move took place. The church relocated to Porter Texas. January 2003 marked the first Sunday service at this new location. Growth continued steadily. By the start of 2017 nearly one hundred people regularly attended services.
Through the years Unity Baptist Church has seen many changes. Its buildings may have evolved. Its location may have shifted. But its core beliefs have remained constant. A love for God and a passion for Scripture have fueled the church’s mission. It’s a testament to the enduring faith of its members.
Many dedicated pastors have guided Unity Baptist Church. Cecil H Wroten served from 1939 to 1941. Woodrow W Nesbit followed from 1941 to 1945. Many other pastors dedicated their lives to the church. Their names are recorded in the church’s history. Each one contributed to the church’s spiritual growth. Each one shaped its identity. Today Pastor Justin Hulin continues this legacy. He leads the congregation. He guides them in their faith.
Unity Baptist Church is part of a larger network. It’s affiliated with the Tryon Evergreen Baptist Association. This association encourages cooperation among churches. It provides resources and helps plant new churches. The church also has ties to the Baptist General Convention of Texas. This organization supports numerous ministries. Finally the Southern Baptist Convention connects Unity Baptist Church to a worldwide community of faith.
