They wanted to create a nearby recreational space for the new residents. Between 1997 and 1998 they transformed the former Rieselfelder into a vibrant park. Private housing developers and the then independent Weissensee district collaborated on the project. The result was Neue Wiesen.
On September 18 1998 Neue Wiesen opened to the public. It’s more than just grass and trees. A 700-meter-long 65-meter-wide park band dominates the landscape. This band includes a playground and sports fields. Small woodlands and meadows surround it all framed by the picturesque Barnim countryside. The Barnimer Dörferweg hiking trail even winds through the northern section of Neue Wiesen.
