Have you ever felt the pulse of a town steeped in centuries of history? Oberasbach whispers tales of its past. It is a place where the echoes of medieval life mingle with the hum of modern Bavaria. Oberasbach is more than just a municipality in the Furth district. It is a vibrant community with a rich history stretching back to 1288.

Our journey starts right here in Oberasbach. Its name itself hints at a watery past. Oberasbach translates to Upper Aschbach. Aschbach refers to the Aschbach stream a small creek that once flowed through the town. Today you can still see the remnants of its history.

The Aschbach stream once powered Oberasbach’s industries. In Neumuhle one of Oberasbach’s six Gemeindeteile a mill thrived. Records tell us of a mill burning down in 1634 and being rebuilt in 1684. There is even speculation that water power was used as early as 1316. Oberasbach’s connection to water runs deep. The stream played a crucial role in its economic development.

But Oberasbach’s story is not just about mills and streams. Numerous landowners including the Holy Roman Empire influenced the town. The Reichsstadt Nuremberg held significant land. Many noble families like the von Furer the von Grundherr and the von Tucher also owned property here. Their influence shaped Oberasbach’s development for centuries. The area was once part of the Duchy of Franconia and later the Franconian Imperial Circle. This rich tapestry of feudal ownership contributed to the town’s unique character.

Later Oberasbach blossomed into a center of industry. Ziegeleien brickworks dotted the landscape. Glass polishing and bronze factories sprung up. The Jacob Buchenbacher glassworks operated between 1843 and 1894. The Eiermann and Tabor bronzeworks expanded in 1897. They even exported bronze products worldwide. Sadly both businesses were liquidated during the Nazi era a painful chapter in Oberasbach’s history.

Oberasbach faced hardship. The two World Wars and the economic downturns affected it. Yet it persevered. Today Oberasbach boasts a modern infrastructure. Its people are proud of their heritage. They strive to balance their modern life with respect for their roots.

The town stands as a testament to resilience. Oberasbach has survived wars economic shifts and the passage of time. The town’s character blends the old and new. The Oberasbach of today is a thriving municipality a community that proudly bears the weight of its rich history. The Oberasbach of today invites you to discover its layers of history.
