Remember the year 1905. It marked the groundbreaking for the Reformationskirche. Imagine the excitement and anticipation as the first stone was laid. This Lutheran church in Moabit began to rise.

The Reformationskirche’s construction finished in 1907. Georg Schwartzkopff was the initial architect. After his death Georg Dinklage and Ernst Paulus revised the plans. The church stood tall. Its steeple reached 82 meters high. It became a prominent landmark.

But the story doesn’t end there. World War II brought devastation. The Bombing of Berlin in 1943 damaged the Reformationskirche severely. The steeple’s spire was hit and destroyed.

After the war, the Reformationskirche was rebuilt. However, the spire was not the same. Instead of the original 82 meters, it reached only 50 meters. A simple, shorter spire replaced the steep one.

Despite the damage and changes, the Reformationskirche remains a significant building. It is a listed building. It stands as a landmark in western Moabit. The Beusselkiez area is known for it.

Inside the Reformationskirche, there’s more to discover. The church has two organs. The main organ has 36 registers. Detlef Kleuker built it in 1968. There is also a choir organ. G. F. Steinmeyer & Co built that one.

The Reformationskirche also has three bells. Two date back to 1905. The Bochumer Verein cast them. These bells bear inscriptions referencing the Reformation. The third bell was replaced in 1922.

Since 2011, the Konvent an der Reformationskirche has used the building. It serves as a cultural and event center. The church continues to be a place of worship and community.

The Reformationskirche is more than just bricks and mortar. It represents resilience. It embodies faith. It tells a story of destruction and rebirth. It stands as a testament to Berlin’s history. Today, the Reformationskirche serves as a reminder of the past. It also provides a space for culture and worship in the present. Its walls have seen war. They have witnessed rebuilding. They continue to resonate with the sounds of music and prayer. Take a moment to appreciate the Reformationskirche. Consider its journey. Reflect on its enduring spirit.
