High above the Tiergarten Park stands the Berlin Victory Column a majestic monument piercing the Berlin sky. This isn’t just any column. It’s a symbol of Prussian might a testament to victories won. It commemorates Prussia’s 19th-century triumphs over Denmark Austria and France.

King Wilhelm I commissioned this grand structure. Architect Heinrich Strack brought the vision to life. The column’s inauguration was on September 2 1873. It instantly became a Berlin icon. Standing tall at approximately 67 meters it dominates the Großer Stern a large roundabout. Red granite forms its strong body. Bronze statues at its base depict allegorical figures representing peace victory war and freedom. Each figure embodies the spirit of its respective theme.

To reach the top you ascend a spiraling staircase. 285 steps lead to a gilded bronze statue. This stunning figure is Golden Victoria. She holds a laurel wreath and a Prussian eagle. From this vantage point the view is breathtaking. You can see miles across Berlin.
