Before you stands a testament to time itself the Chùa Linh Đường. Let me tell you its story. The Chùa Linh Đường also known as Liên Đàm Tự is more than just an ancient architectural marvel. It is a spiritual destination that has drawn countless visitors and Buddhists for over 600 years.

This temple which is called Liên Đàm. It sits in Hoàng Liệt ward Hoàng Mai district in Hanoi. It is nestled within a large green space. Chùa Linh Đường offers a tranquil escape right in the heart of the bustling capital.

Historical records indicate that the Chùa Linh Đường existed before 1617. It was originally named Chùa Linh Tiên. Over the centuries it has undergone numerous renovations. These renovations were thanks to contributions from Thiền sư monks and devout donors.

A significant restoration occurred in 1654. Thiền sư Tự Huệ Quảng oversaw it. The family of Ông Ngô Vĩnh Đăng and Lưu Thị Lý generously supported the effort. This renovation saw the construction of important structures. These included the tòa Tam bảo the nhà Tổ and the nhà Mẫu.

As one of Hanoi’s oldest temples the Chùa Linh Đường has witnessed much. It has been recognized as a national historical and cultural relic. The Vietnamese government ensures its preservation.

Today the Chùa Linh Đường remains a place of worship for Buddhists. They gather to pray recite scriptures and uphold traditional values. Despite enduring years of conflict the Chùa Linh Đường has preserved valuable architectural works.

The temple’s architecture is a prime example of traditional Vietnamese design. The ancient beauty is evident in its unique structures.

The tòa Tam bảo features a special “suspended foundation” system. Inside are hundreds of “vồ” bricks from the 15th and 16th centuries.

The nhà Tổ is constructed of Lim wood. It boasts a system of six rows of columns. It stands as a unique architectural feat in Vietnam.

The Bảo tháp Báo Ân built in 2004 commemorates the temple’s 350th anniversary of major renovation. It covers an area of 1500m2. The tower was honored as Vietnam’s tallest Buddhist tower in 2007. In 2010 it was recognized for housing the most bronze Buddha statues in Vietnam.

Intricate architectural details delicate carvings and a harmonious blend of traditional and modern elements create an appealing structure.

The State recognized Chùa Linh Đường also known as Chùa Liên Đàm as a national historical and cultural relic in 2012. The Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 3280/QĐ-BVHTTDL recognizing Chùa Liên Đàm. It has historical architectural artistic and religious value.

This recognition provides a legal basis for the State to preserve renovate and promote the relic. It confirms Chùa Liên Đàm as a valuable historical and cultural site in Vietnam.
