A meeting of concerned people sparked a powerful Christian ministry. This is the story of Ambassadors for Christ Baptist Church. It began with Rev. Moses Chow and Ted and Leona Choy. They met with Christiana Tsai in 1956.
The Choys worked with International Students Inc. They invited Rev. Chow to a Chinese Bible Study. This event led to ongoing activities. One result was the Ambassadors Magazine, first published in October 1957.
Chinese student ministries became urgent. Rev. Chow and the Choys prayed for guidance. Then they founded Ambassadors for Christ on May 6, 1963. Rev. Moses Chow became Executive Director in 1969.
Under his leadership, Ambassadors for Christ reached out to students. They also supported Chinese Bible Study Groups. The ministry expanded to Europe and Asia through funding. Short-term mission projects also helped.
In 1966, Christiana Tsai and Mary Leaman donated property to Ambassadors for Christ. This act of faith led to a relocation. On June 15, 1974, the headquarters moved from Washington DC to Paradise, PA.
The facility grew over the years. It accommodated Mainland Chinese Literature and the Ambassadors for Christ Bookstore. The Christiana Tsai Retreat Center was also updated. It hosts seminars, workshops, and retreats.
God continued to bless Ambassadors for Christ in the following decade. Ambassadors Magazine became a bi-monthly publication. Rev. Hoy Him Chan became Executive Director in 1977. Rev. Moses Chow then pursued missionary work in Southeast Asia.
Under Rev. Chan’s leadership, the first directory of Chinese churches was published. It listed Bible Study Groups and Organizations in North America in 1980. The Ambassadors for Christ Bookstore was also established during this time.
In 1983, Rev. David Chow became Executive Director. That December, Chinese Mission ’83 took place. It was the first triennial Chinese Mission Convention, held in Washington DC.
Rev. David Chow established the Mainland Chinese Ministry Department in 1985. Ambassadors for Christ then focused on campus ministries. They established ministries in cities across the US. These cities included Dallas, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Atlanta, and Los Angeles.
The Chinese Christian Faculty Network formed relationships. College and University professors coordinated outreach. This expanded the ministry’s influence. Recently, Ambassadors for Christ launched new ministries.
These forward-reaching ministries include training and discipleship. They also minister in Europe. Additionally, they host a Chinese Mission Convention on the US West Coast. They also have one in the South, in Houston, TX.
Ambassadors for Christ is focusing on ministry in Europe. They also seek to increase their influence on university campuses. They invite you to pray with them. Pray as they seek God’s next steps. They want to reach this generation for Christ.
Ambassadors for Christ International was founded in 1948. John Ridley and a building contractor were concerned. They saw a need for biblical preaching in Australia. They formed the Australian Institute of Evangelism.
The institute trained young men and women. They learned biblical truths and practical evangelism. Believers from nearby countries came to be trained. The vision spread to other parts of the world.
The focus was on building up local church leaders. This would help them reach their nations. The name changed to Ambassadors for Christ International. Training local pastors remains central to their mission. The methods have changed. But the mission remains the same.
Today, Ambassadors for Christ is an international fellowship. It spans six continents. They are committed to fulfilling the Great Commission. They cross all cultural and linguistic boundaries.
