In 2014, a seed was planted. The Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT) began its journey. It was originally known as NIPTICT, founded by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications. It was Cambodia’s first public research and education institution specialized in digital technology. Imagine over 700 eager candidates taking the first entrance exam. They crammed into a tent because classrooms were still under construction. The Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT) started with just 100 students in three pioneering programs: Computer Science, Telecommunication and Networking, and E-commerce. The first students received laptops. A dedicated dormitory, supported by Smart Axiata, opened its doors in 2015. This allowed students from all over Cambodia, especially young women, to access this groundbreaking institution. The Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT) quickly forged international ties. A partnership with India’s Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) led to the creation of the India-Cambodia Centre for Excellence & Talent. The Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT) also launched the Cambodia ICT Volunteer Program. Students traveled to remote areas. They taught ICT skills to other students and local officials, helping bridge the digital divide. In 2018, the first class of 70 students graduated. Almost all found jobs, earning double the minimum wage. The Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT) expanded. A groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of Cambodia’s first Innovation Center. Even basic necessities were a milestone. In 2019, CADT finally connected to the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority. Before that, they relied on groundwater. NIPTICT officially transformed into the Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT) in 2021. This change was spearheaded by H.E Chea Vandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunications. The academy launched the Techo Digital Talent Scholarship Program. It aimed to develop outstanding individuals for the digital age. The Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT) has achieved significant milestones in a short time. From humble beginnings in a tent to international collaborations and award-winning programs, CADT has become a key driver in Cambodia’s digital transformation.
