Ever wondered where spiritual renewal meets historical resilience in Freiburg? Here at Die Christengemeinschaft, the story began with Friedrich Doldinger, a local, who became one of the first priests ordained in the community in September 1922. Sent directly to Freiburg, Doldinger laid the foundation for the congregation. By November 1922, the Freiburger Christengemeinschaft proudly welcomed its first 12 members.

Imagine the humble beginnings. The very first Menschweihehandlung, a central act of worship, took place on December 3, 1922, at the “Zum Schwimmbad” inn on Lorettostrasse. It was a time of finding their feet and establishing their presence in the city.

A year later in 1923, the community secured a space on Talstrasse. Except for a period between 1941 and 1945 when it was prohibited, this room served as their sanctuary until 1950. Here, the Menschweihehandlung was regularly performed. The community persevered through challenges, holding steadfast to their faith.

In 1949, Die Christengemeinschaft acquired a leasehold property at Goethestraße 67 a, near the Amselbach, located on the leveled tracks of the old Höllentalbahn. A wooden barrack was purchased. Then on April 23, 1950, this space was consecrated with its first Menschweihehandlung.

As the congregation grew, the original wooden structure became insufficient. Problems arose. The basement was often flooded. A larger church, complete with a community room and additional spaces, was envisioned. Finally, on November 27, 1988, the new church for Die Christengemeinschaft was inaugurated.

Today, Die Christengemeinschaft continues to evolve. They are even modernizing their online presence to better connect with members. The community is led by several dedicated pastors, including Christof Beck, Kati Kolk, Michael Wiehle, and Vicente Machi. Brigitte von Berkholz serves as Pfarrerin im Ruhestand, while Berthold Liebelt is freigestellt aus Gesundheitsgründen. Birgit Pinnow is the Gemeindehelferin. Christine Lempelius serves as Religionslehrer.

The Gemeindebüro is managed by Dorothea Quaas. It is open every Thursday from 9:00 to 12:00. You can contact them or write an email. Die Christengemeinschaft is not just a building. It is a living testament to faith, community, and the enduring spirit of its members.
