In 1834, a grand house arose on Nevsky Prospekt. This is the Дом Кожевникова. It stands as a testament to the architectural prowess of Pavel Vockiy. Дом Кожевникова has witnessed a vibrant tapestry of stories unfold within its walls. Initially, the building served as housing for the merchant Kozhevnikov, hence its name, Дом Кожевникова. Later, parts of the building housed shops and restaurants. These establishments catered to the bustling crowds of Nevsky Prospekt. In the mid-19th century, Ivan Goncharov, a prominent Russian writer, resided in one of the apartments within Дом Кожевникова. He was known for his famous novel “Oblomov”. The building later became home to “Fregat Pallada”, a renowned literary gathering. It attracted many notable figures of the time. As the 20th century dawned, Дом Кожевникова transitioned into a cinema called “Mullen Rouge”. It became a popular spot for entertainment. In 1908, the cinema underwent extensive renovations. It was equipped with the latest technology. This solidified its status as a premier movie theater. The building’s ownership changed hands throughout the years. It continued to house cultural establishments. In the 1960s, it transformed into a grocery store known as “Food Products”. Later, in the 1990s, it became a modern fashion house called “Tatyana Parfenova”. Today, Дом Кожевникова continues to be a vibrant part of Nevsky Prospekt. It blends its rich history with modern life. It has been a silent observer of St. Petersburg’s evolution. This evolution stretches from the era of horse-drawn carriages to the present day.
