Clayton’s other works include Galveston’s Bishop’s Palace. He also left his mark on many churches and schools throughout Texas. Annunciation Church however stands as a particularly stunning example of his architectural vision.

The church’s foundation has endured. It faced a serious structural problem. A large void developed beneath the southwest corner. The ground settled causing subsidence. But thanks to innovative polymer injection techniques this issue was resolved with minimal disruption. Masses continued. The community remained connected to this place of worship.

Beyond its architectural significance Annunciation played a key role in the development of Houston’s Catholic community. It birthed five other parishes. It championed education establishing Incarnate Word Academy. It’s also supported important social causes like San José Clinic. It is an anchor of community care.
