Shhh Listen closely Can you hear the whispers of the past echoing across Redcliffe Lagoon? This isn’t just any lagoon. Redcliffe Lagoon is a vibrant heart beating within Redcliffe a place where history and leisure intertwine.

Redcliffe itself holds a significant place in Queensland’s history. It was the first attempted settlement way back in 1824. A penal colony established here. Unfortunately mosquito-borne illnesses forced its relocation to Brisbane just a year later. Think of the struggles those early settlers faced.

But Redcliffe Lagoon’s story doesn’t begin there. It’s built on the grounds of the former Luna Park. Imagine the laughter and screams of thrill-seekers riding a Ferris wheel or a steam train. That was Luna Park. It thrived here from 1944 to the late 1960s providing entertainment for locals tourists and even WWII service members. It featured classic rides and games. What a lively atmosphere it must have been.

The lagoon you see today is a transformation. It opened in 1993. It took the place of Luna Park’s saltwater swimming pool. This is a remarkable rebirth.

Today families gather. Children splash in the shallows. The lagoon itself is human-made. It’s 95 metres long and reaches a maximum depth of just 1.8 metres. The water is saltwater treated with chlorine. It is safe for all ages. There is even a little stream with waterfalls a delight for young children.

In the centre of the lagoon sits an island. Children love to explore it and the inlets surrounding it. It is a playground of natural rock formations. It’s a wonderful natural waterscape perfect for children’s parties. Remember to keep a watchful eye though. Lifeguards are present but not always. They are absent from June to July.

The views are breathtaking. From here you can soak up the bay breeze. You can also see Moreton Bay Bribie Island Moreton Island North Stradbroke Island and even the Port of Brisbane. This lagoon is a perfect blend of nature and human ingenuity.

Redcliffe Lagoon isn’t just a swimming spot. It offers playgrounds basketball courts and picnic areas. It’s all connected by paths perfect for bikes and scooters. And nearby are Sunday markets offering local produce fresh seafood and handmade crafts.

So next time you’re in Redcliffe remember the stories embedded in this place. This is Redcliffe Lagoon more than just a lagoon. It’s a legacy. It’s a treasure waiting to be discovered. Enjoy your visit.
