Once much larger it was connected to Sungai Pantai. Now a hub for recreation the lake hosts kayaking. Students can even kayak for just RM2 with their student card. The lake has a rich history. It’s been the site of Water Carnivals. Orientation events included duck-catching competitions and boat races. Newly elected residential college committee members were even ‘ducked’ in a playful baptism ceremony. The lake has seen many changes. Royal Professor Ungku Aziz researched it. Tan Sri Abdullah Sanusi beautified its landscape. The lake inspired many students’ writings. It remains a central part of UM’s identity. In 2014 Project ReviVaL revived the lake. This involved dredging cleaning and reintroducing life. Ducks and geese now grace the waters. Various fish species thrive. The lake is now a site for limnology research focusing on freshwater ecology and biology. Kayaking is just one activity. You can also enjoy a picnic a jog or a stroll. So grab a kayak.
