The Neuer Friedhof Friedrichsfelde was established in 1902. It is the largest cemetery of the association. The cemetery spans almost eight hectares. This provides a peaceful environment.
A special feature is the biotope. It lies on the left side. It offers a habitat for plants and small animals. This shows the cemetery’s commitment to nature.
Many famous people rest here at the Neuer Friedhof Friedrichsfelde. Georg Knorr is among them. He founded the Knorr brake factory. Heinrich Dathe also rests here. He was a veterinary scientist and zoo director. Peter Borgelt is buried here. You may know him from the TV series “Polizeiruf 110”. Karlheinz Liefers is here too. He was an actor and director. He is the father of Jan-Josef Liefers.
When you enter Neuer Friedhof Friedrichsfelde, you find a garden. It is a place for rest. There are many blooming perennials. A pond with benches invites visitors to linger. It is a place of beauty and calm.
The Karlshorster and Neuer Friedrichsfelder Friedhof consists of two burial grounds. The Karlshorst congregation split from Friedrichsfelde in 1907. The cemetery chapel is in the Karlshorst part. Both congregations use it together.
In the entrance area, there is a biographical exhibition. It displays personalities buried here. This provides insights into their lives and achievements.
Since 2007, there has been a pet cemetery in the northern part. It is called “Im Wiesengrund”. This offers a final resting place for beloved animals.
There are war grave sites. They commemorate soldiers and civilians. They died in Karlshorst at the end of World War II. A grave site exists for the Oskar-Ziethen-Krankenhaus Lichtenberg. Stillborn children are buried here.
