Shrouded in solemnity, the Zhuma stands as a silent sentinel. Here at Babao Mountain Revolutionary Cemetery, the weight of history presses down. Zhuma, in Chinese tradition, is a term for a memorial, a structure built to honor the departed. This particular Zhuma carries the echoes of a life dedicated to China’s transformation. It marks the final resting place of Zhenhua, a figure who played a pivotal role in shaping modern China. He served as a vice premier and contributed significantly to economic development, national defense, and legal construction. In February 2025, dignitaries and comrades gathered at Babao Mountain to bid farewell to Zhenhua. Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, and other leaders visited him during his illness and offered condolences after his passing. The ceremony at the Zhuma was marked by sorrow and respect. The hall was draped in mourning, a stark black and white banner hanging above Zhenhua’s portrait. His body lay amidst vibrant wreaths and the flag of the Chinese Communist Party. The Zhuma became a focal point for national mourning. Party and state leaders, friends, family, and representatives from across China came to pay their respects. They bowed before the Zhuma, a final tribute to Zhenhua’s lifelong service. The Zhuma at Babao Mountain serves as more than just a marker. It symbolizes a chapter in China’s ongoing narrative, a reminder of the individuals who shaped its path.
