“A haven for the orphaned and vulnerable.” That’s how the Hospital Beata María Ana began its journey in Madrid in 1888. Originally established by the Sisters Hospitallers, its primary mission was to provide shelter and education for poor orphaned girls. The hospital’s first location was on Atocha Street. Over time, it relocated to Méndez Álvaro Street, then Cansares Street, and later to Cabeza Street. Finally, in 1928, the Hospital Beata María Ana found its permanent home on the spacious grounds of Doctor Esquerdo 83. The grand opening in 1929 was a significant event, graced by royal attendees and prominent figures. This marked the beginning of curative care for impoverished girls suffering from various ailments. The Hospital Beata María Ana evolved. In 1930, it opened a free medical clinic, offering a range of specialties. These included internal medicine, pediatrics, general surgery, traumatology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, endocrinology, rheumatology, and dermatology. By the late 1950s, the hospital established training schools to enhance the professional skills of its staff. These schools eventually gained recognition, becoming a reference in the healthcare sector. Notably, the Official School of Healthcare Technical Assistants, with specialties in physiotherapy and psychiatry, and the School of Social Workers, emerged from these initiatives. In 2010, a major renovation project concluded, modernizing the hospital while preserving its historical charm. Today, the Hospital Beata María Ana stands as a non-profit medical-surgical hospital. It upholds the values of the Sisters Hospitallers, providing care to those in need. The hospital is renowned for its advanced technology and a prestigious medical team. They address complex pathologies and offer most medical and surgical specialties. The Hospital Beata María Ana is not merely a healthcare facility but a testament to over 130 years of dedicated service to the people of Madrid. It stands as a beacon of compassion, innovation, and unwavering commitment to patient well-being.
