Originally built for Charles Hornbeck, the Ziegler House stands before us. This 1904 house soon became the residence of Roth Ziegler. The Ziegler House is located on Figueroa Street in Highland Park. Highland Park is a section of Los Angeles, California. Its location is near the Southwest Museum in Northeast Los Angeles.

The Ziegler House represents early 20th-century architecture. It showcases Shingle-Style architecture. This includes both Victorian and Craftsman elements. The architects were Charles Hornbeck and Alfred P. Wilson. The Ziegler House blends Queen Anne and American Craftsman styles.

Let’s step back in time. Imagine the early 1900s. Roth Ziegler surveys his newly acquired home. The large windows reflect the California sunshine. He admires the blend of Victorian and Craftsman design. The quality and craftsmanship are immediately apparent.

Fast forward to the 1950s. Carl Dentzel, then director of the Southwest Museum, had a vision. He purchased the Ziegler House. His plan was to add it to the Southwest Museum Complex. The complex included the Casa de Adobe and the Braun Research Library.

The Ziegler Estate gained recognition over the years. It was declared Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument #416. This happened on February 21, 1989. Later, on October 3, 2003, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

For many years, the Ziegler House served as a child-care facility. It operated under the name La Casita Verde. Recently, it was closed for renovations. This ensures the preservation of its historical integrity.

Charles J. Fisher and the Highland Park Heritage Trust played a crucial role. They nominated the Zeigler Estate. Their efforts led to its Los Angeles Historic Cultural designation. Their dedication ensured the Ziegler House would be preserved for future generations.

Take a moment to appreciate this unique structure. The Ziegler House represents a significant part of Los Angeles history. It embodies architectural styles and community efforts. It is a testament to preservation and adaptation. Its story continues to unfold. The Ziegler House remains a landmark in Highland Park.
