Christ Church Rathgar wasn’t built overnight. It started as a simple service held in an old schoolhouse. In 1859 a group of Presbyterians in the Rathmines Rathgar area saw a need. They petitioned the Presbytery of Dublin. They desired a regular Sunday evening service. Their request was granted. The congregation was born. The need for a permanent home became clear. This led to the purchase of the current site.
Rev William Fleming Stevenson began his ministry here in January 1860. This marked a significant milestone. He guided the congregation through its early years. These hostels provide housing and education for disadvantaged children. Many come from broken families or families of migrant workers.
