Henderson, driven by a vision to serve the Detroit Height-Valencia Park area, secured the property on Detroit Avenue. This marked the beginning of Bayview Baptist Church’s journey. The church’s early years were not without challenges. After more than a year without a leader, Reverend Timothy James Winters arrived in 1973. Pastor Winters guided the church for an incredible 40 years. His leadership helped shape Bayview Baptist Church into a cornerstone of the community.
Bayview Baptist Church’s impact extends far beyond its walls. In 2015, the church became the first faith-based Live Well San Diego partner in the Central Region. With a congregation of over 1,500 people, Bayview Baptist Church champions a multicultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-generational approach. Their vision is to reach out to those seeking faith, educate those already saved, and serve as a beacon of hope. Their ReClaim Magazine reflects this vision, focusing on faith, family, fellowship, finances, and fitness. The church offers an array of programs through its Ministry Services and Community Services. Pastor Winters’ legacy of community development continued with Pastor Terry Brooks. Under Brooks’ leadership, Bayview Baptist Church embarked on innovative projects.
