Hindu Senior Secondary School

“Four languages echo within these walls,” a former student once told me, right here outside Hindu Senior Secondary School. “Tamil, Hindi, English, and the ancient Sanskrit.” Hindu Senior Secondary School stands as a testament to the power of education. It began modestly in 1971 with only 171 students. The Hindu Educational Organisation, which also manages the historic Hindu High School, birthed this institution. Originally intended for boys and starting with classes VI and VII, Hindu Senior Secondary School quickly expanded. The primary section, with classes IV and V, opened in 1973. A year later, the school welcomed classes I through III, and importantly, became co-educational. By June 1975, LKG and UKG were added, solidifying the primary department. The older students, from classes VI to XI, came under the affiliation of the Central Board of Secondary Education. The school’s location has also evolved. It initially operated from the HEO Hostel building. However, in June 1974, it moved to its current location at 83 Big Street. The 10+2+3 education pattern, now familiar in India, was implemented at Hindu Senior Secondary School in the 1976-77 academic year, beginning with the first batch of X Std students. This school, once a humble seedling, has blossomed into a large institution, nurturing over 2,500 students from Lower Kindergarten to Plus Two. It’s a vibrant mix of languages, cultures, and aspirations, a testament to its founders’ vision.
