Standing before you is Palazzo Cagnola, a testament to the legacy of Giuseppe Cagnola, a Milanese aristocrat with a passion for the finer things in life. He had a vision, a dream to create a palace reflecting his wealth and noble lineage, and he commissioned the renowned architect Pietro Pestagalli to bring it to life in 1824. The palazzo, with its Neoclassical design and bold architectural elements, boasts large balconies adorned with lion-like supports, a beautiful courtyard with four sides of granite, and rooms filled with stunning decorations. The palazzo, built by the man after whom it is named, wasn’t just a grand residence but a space that witnessed historical dramas unfolding from its very walls. During the riots of 1848, it served as the headquarters of the Habsburg administration, making it a key player in the turmoil that shook the city. Inside its beautiful rooms, the Austrian general Radetzky strategized, only to be forced to flee to the nearby Castello Sforzesco during the Five Days of Milan, under the fire of the uprising.
