Elder Michael W French MD answered their call becoming the pastor of this new church. He served as Assistant Pastor at Buggs Temple Church of God in Christ previously. In 1992 the church found a permanent home at 2064 North Cornell Avenue. That’s not its current location though. The church purchased property on Joy Road in Detroit. That’s where you stand now. The church’s name changed later to New St Mark Church of God in Christ Inc. It’s a testament to their enduring spirit. They thrived. They expanded their ministry. They served their community.
Pastor French’s leadership extended beyond St Mark. He became a District Superintendent of Charity District under Bishop Milton L Hall Sr. After Bishop Hall’s passing. St Mark joined Indiana North Central Fourth Jurisdiction under Bishop Donald L Alford Sr. The church’s journey reflects the resilience of its members.
