Kyoto Tachibana Junior and Senior High School has a rich history. It was founded in 1902 as Kyoto Handicraft Girls’ School. The school has changed names several times. It became co-educational in 2000.

The school’s educational philosophy aims to cultivate independent individuals. Students develop character and communication skills. They also gain a global perspective for cultural understanding.

Kyoto Tachibana Senior High School offers three tracks to its students. There is a V-course for top national universities. An Advanced Track serves other national and private universities. The Comprehensive Track is for private universities. Most students are in the Comprehensive Track.

The school has a wide selection of clubs. These include sports and cultural clubs. The brass band is very popular. The school is also known for its successful athletics. Their soccer and volleyball teams have produced Olympic athletes.

The Kyoto Tachibana SHS Band is known as the Orange Devils. They have won many gold prizes in the All Japan Marching Contest. They have been invited to the Rose Parade in the United States several times. In 2022 they performed at a National Day event in Taiwan. In 2025 they will again be at the Rose Parade.

The school’s color is ancient purple. Its slogan is Independence and Coexistence. The school has its own song. The fight song is Tachibana Soul.

The school founder Takeo Nakamori said to put energy into practical education. He wanted students to gain the ability to be self-employed and independent.

Kyoto Tachibana Junior and Senior High School is near the city of Uji. It is run by Kyoto Tachibana Educational Institute. This institute also operates Kyoto Tachibana University. It runs Tachibana Uji kindergarten. The school has over 1000 students.

The school has modern facilities. The Band has its own music room. They also practice all over the school. There is a stage in the school’s courtyard. The School Festival Hall seats 1250. It is the center of the school’s cultural activities. A new school building is under construction. It will have space for the Band to practice for the AJBA Marching Contest. It is expected to be completed in early summer 2026.

Notable alumni include many volleyball players. There are Kotoe Inoue and Akari Oumi. Hitomi Nakamichi and Ayano Kojima also went here. Keiki Nishiyama also attended. Several footballers are alumni. Hiroki Morisaki and Katsuya Nakano are alumni. Shuto Kawai and Yuto Iwasaki are alumni. Keiya Sento and Taiyo Nishino are alumni. Tomoya Koyamatsu and Soki Yatagai also went here. Mai Ito is a long-distance runner who attended. Mito Natsume is an actress and singer who is also an alumna.
