“Did you know Ichihara City Makizono Elementary School almost didn’t exist?” I say. The story of this school is one of growth and change. It reflects the development of the Chiharadai area itself.

Ichihara City Makizono Elementary School is located in Chiba Prefecture. Specifically it is in the northern part of Ichihara City in the Chiharadai district. The school opened its doors in April 1996. This makes it a relatively young institution.

Back then Chiharadai was a new town. It was experiencing rapid development. The plan included a fifth elementary school in the area. This would be located further west than Makizono Elementary. However the population growth didn’t meet expectations. The plan for the fifth school was cancelled. The land was used for housing instead.

Makizono Elementary School became the westernmost school in the new town. It stands as a testament to the area’s evolving needs.

The school covers a large area. The school grounds span 23040 square meters. The school building itself occupies 5693 square meters. This provides ample space for learning and activities.

Ichihara City Makizono Elementary School uses a two-semester system. This is common in all municipal schools in Ichihara.

The school celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2015. By 2013 the school had been designated as a research school six times. This highlights its commitment to educational innovation.

Makizono Elementary School actively participates in community initiatives. One notable program is the Bell Mark campaign. The PTA organizes the Bell Mark activities. They collect Bell Marks from local businesses. These marks are then redeemed for educational equipment.

The school divides the collection tasks among nearby schools. They cooperate with local stores. This collaboration strengthens community bonds. The PTA also collects used ink cartridges and paper containers. This promotes environmental awareness among students.

Through the Bell Mark program Makizono Elementary has acquired various items. These include folding safety tents and white coats for school lunches. They also purchased large balls for athletic events and crime prevention supplies. The students use these items regularly.

The school publishes a newsletter called “Bell Mark Dayori”. It provides information about the campaign. It also highlights participating companies. The newsletter even includes tips on recycling.

The PTA members put in many hours counting and sorting the Bell Marks. Children often help with these tasks. This teaches them about cooperation and responsibility.

Makizono Elementary School continues to evolve. It adapts to the changing needs of its students and the community. The school strives to create a nurturing environment. It fosters both academic excellence and community involvement. It’s a place where children can learn and grow.

As we conclude our visit take a moment to appreciate the dedication of the staff parents and students. Their collective efforts make Ichihara City Makizono Elementary School a vital part of Chiharadai. It’s a place where community and education come together.
