“Did you know Ichihara City Makizono Elementary School almost didn’t exist?” I say. The story of this school is one of growth and change. It reflects the development of the Chiharadai area itself.
Ichihara City Makizono Elementary School is located in Chiba Prefecture. Specifically it is in the northern part of Ichihara City in the Chiharadai district. The school opened its doors in April 1996. This makes it a relatively young institution.
Back then Chiharadai was a new town. It was experiencing rapid development. The plan included a fifth elementary school in the area. This would be located further west than Makizono Elementary. However the population growth didn’t meet expectations. The plan for the fifth school was cancelled. The land was used for housing instead.
Makizono Elementary School became the westernmost school in the new town. It stands as a testament to the area’s evolving needs.
The school covers a large area. The school grounds span 23040 square meters. The school building itself occupies 5693 square meters. This provides ample space for learning and activities.
Ichihara City Makizono Elementary School uses a two-semester system. This is common in all municipal schools in Ichihara.
The school celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2015. By 2013 the school had been designated as a research school six times. This highlights its commitment to educational innovation.
