Parafia Świętego Józefa Robotnika stands as a testament to faith and architectural vision. Its history began in 1978. Jan Kozak a local parish priest secured permission to build a unique church. The design was the work of several architects and engineers. They included Wojciech Kurowski Alina Niedźwiedzka-Kurowska and Jan Niedźwiedzki. Wojciech Marszałek handled the structural design.
Interestingly the church’s design drew inspiration from the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Tokyo. This gives Parafia Świętego Józefa Robotnika an unusual international flair.
In 1981 a significant event took place. Archbishop Henryk Gulbinowicz laid the cornerstone. This stone came from excavations near the tomb of the Prince of Apostles. This act connected the church to early Christian traditions.
Parafia Świętego Józefa Robotnika officially formed in 1990. It was established by Cardinal Henryk Gulbinowicz. The parish was separated from the Parish of St. Boniface in Zgorzelec. A decade later in 2000 Bishop Tadeusz Rybak consecrated the church. He dedicated the altar to St. Joseph the Worker.
Several priests have led Parafia Świętego Józefa Robotnika. Jan Kozak Józef Sabaś Stanisław Potocki Kazimierz Pietkun and Franciszek Molski. Each contributed to the parish’s growth.
The church celebrates its patron saint in a special way. The liturgical memorial falls on May 1st and December 4th. May 1st is especially significant. It marks the anniversary of the church’s consecration. It is also the feast of St. Joseph the Worker. Every Monday there is a novena to St. Joseph. It is held at 6 PM.
