Seoul’s story unfolds right here on Dorim-ro. Dorim-ro is more than just a road. It is a connector and a place steeped in history. Once known as Dojimiri or Dwaeumiri this area derived its name from the fortress-like mountains. Despite its residential transformation, echoes of its past linger. The name evolved to Dorim-ri over time.

During the Joseon period Dorim-dong thrived as an agricultural center. Its fertile land was ideal for barley, millet, maize and beans. Near Dorimcheon, farmers cultivated buckwheat and adzuki beans. The construction of levees facilitated barley farming. Historically, natural boundaries defined Dorim-dong. Names like Moratmal, Dwaejimaeul and Jumakgeori marked these areas during the Joseon era. In 1914 Doyamiri was redesignated as Dorim-ri. It was then integrated into Buk-myeon.

In 1936 Dorim-ri became Dorimjeong under Gyeongseongbu. A decade later in 1946 it was divided. This division created Dorim-dong and Saok-dong, now known as Munrae-dong. Dorim-ro has witnessed Seoul’s transformation. It has seen it grow from an agricultural hub to a modern city. Seoul has been the capital city since 1394 during the Joseon Dynasty. It was first settled in 554 and originally known as Hanyang. The name Seoul comes from a Korean word. It originally meant capital city.

More than half of South Korea’s population lives in the Seoul Capital Area. That is around 26 million people. Seoul is a city that never sleeps. Almost anything you can think of has a 24-hour option. Seoul preserves Hanok to maintain its cultural identity amid rapid modernization.

Today Dorim-ro stands as a testament to Seoul’s enduring spirit. This is a place where past and present intertwine seamlessly. This is a place where history lives on. Dorim-ro is a reminder of Seoul’s rich heritage. It also exemplifies the city’s vibrant future. As you traverse Dorim-ro remember its story. Think about its agricultural roots and its modern identity. This road is more than just a path. It is a journey through time.
