Is it possible for a church to have five hearts? In a way, Elizabeth Baptist Church does. Right here, in the southwest of Atlanta, stands the main campus of Elizabeth Baptist Church. But it’s not the only one. Founded in 1921, this church has grown to embrace five locations across Georgia, including Fairburn, Smyrna, Douglasville, and Conyers. The heart of this expansion? A mission “to lovingly lead lost individuals into a relationship with Jesus Christ and to develop mature believers.” The church’s incredible journey began modestly on Elm Street, eventually growing under the leadership of Reverend E.D. Florence in a storefront on Taliaferro Street. Through the decades, each pastor left an indelible mark. Pastor James E. Hightower, Sr., leading from 1959-1994, grew the congregation to over 2500 and established a firm foundation of faith and education. When he passed the torch to Pastor Craig L. Oliver (now Dr. Oliver) in 1995, the church moved to its current location on Cascade Road. This marked the beginning of Elizabeth Baptist Church as we know it today. Dr. Oliver, with his passion for both spiritual growth and education, formed the impactful Indelible Impressions Learning Center, reaching nearly 2000 families. Elizabeth Baptist Church today boasts fourteen weekly services across its five locations, a testament to its growth and dedication to its mission. More than just a place of worship, Elizabeth Baptist Church actively reaches out to its community through various ministries, aiming to make a real difference.
