But just a moment later, a teacher’s reassuring voice, followed by a giggle, painted a different picture. This is Schule Am Schleemer Park, Standort Möllner Landstraße. A place where, amidst the everyday rhythm of school life, extraordinary things happen. The school, nestled in Hamburg-Billstedt, is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a vibrant hub of learning and growth for approximately 310 students, from Vorschule (preschool) to 4th grade. Many of these children come from the surrounding neighborhood, bringing with them a rich tapestry of cultures and backgrounds. Schule Am Schleemer Park, Standort Möllner Landstraße is a school for all children, embracing the principle of inclusion. Here, children with diverse learning needs and abilities learn together, supported by a dedicated team of teachers, special educators, and caregivers. The school recognizes that every child is unique. It strives to nurture their individual talents and provide them with the tools they need to thrive. The commitment to fostering a positive learning environment extends beyond the classroom. The Ganztägige Bildung und Betreuung an Schulen (GBS) program, in partnership with elbkinder, offers enriching after-school activities until 4 p.m., and is incredibly popular with the students. Think back to November 2024. The annual Lichterfest at Schule Am Schleemer Park, Standort Möllner Landstraße filled the air with warmth and light. The aroma of sausages sizzling on the grill, courtesy of the dedicated parent council, mingled with the joyful melodies of the school band. Even the rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of the students, teachers, and families who came together to celebrate. The Polizei closed off Möllner Landstraße, ensuring everyone had plenty of space to enjoy the festivities. From the mesmerizing glow of lanterns to the crackling bonfire tended by the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Kirchsteinbek, the Lichterfest embodied the school’s spirit of community and togetherness.
