Traverse with me the impressive Xie Guohui Bridge. This bridge is a crucial part of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. It is a core transportation hub. It connects the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is an engineering marvel. It includes an underwater tunnel. It also has two bridges and two artificial islands. This makes it one of the world’s most challenging cross-sea projects.

Imagine the scale. The entire link stretches 24 kilometers. It significantly cuts travel time. Journeys between Shenzhen and Zhongshan are much faster now. What used to take two hours now takes only 30 minutes.

The Xie Guohui Bridge is not just any bridge. It’s a key component of this reduced travel time. It facilitates quicker movement across the Pearl River estuary. This estuary is one of the most densely populated areas globally. It includes Hong Kong and Macao. It also includes nine cities in Guangdong.

Consider the specific achievements of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. It boasts the largest span for a fully offshore steel box girder suspension bridge at 1,666 meters. The bridge deck reaches a height of 91 meters. This provides high navigation clearance for sea vessels.

Think about the construction. The largest offshore suspension bridge anchor contains 344000 cubic meters of concrete. The bridge can withstand winds up to 83.7 meters per second. That is a testament to its robust design.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link also features the longest two-way eight-lane immersed tube tunnel. It measures 5035 meters. The underwater tunnel is impressive in its own right. It is the widest underwater steel shell-concrete immersed tube tunnel. It reaches up to 55.6 meters.

The construction teams used a unique approach. They employed the largest single-volume cast for a steel-shell immersed tube. Self-compacting concrete was used. Each tube section required 29000 cubic meters.

Even the smallest details were meticulously planned. The widest repeatedly foldable M-shaped water stop. It is used in the final joint of the immersed tube tunnel. It measures 3 meters.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has the world’s first underwater expressway interchange. It also has an airport interchange. This enhances connectivity and efficiency.

Safety is paramount in the tunnel section. Advanced firefighting and smoke exhaust systems are in place. A team of 14 robots constantly patrols the tunnel. They monitor pipes and cables. They can even detect car accidents. These robots can direct traffic. They use built-in loudspeakers. They also film the scene and transmit it to a control center.

Color-coded lights line the tunnel walls. Green indicates normal conditions. Red signals emergencies. During evacuations the lights guide people. They change from yellow to green.

The Xie Guohui Bridge and the entire Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link demonstrate China’s engineering prowess. It joins the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. That bridge is the world’s longest sea crossing bridge. It helps people navigate this densely populated region with ease.

As we stand here on the Xie Guohui Bridge remember its role. It is more than just a structure. It is a vital artery. It shortens distances. It connects communities. It drives economic growth in the Greater Bay Area.
