Remember the last time you stumbled upon a hidden gem? The Kofferfabrik might just be that place for you. Since 1994, the Kofferfabrik has stood here on Lange Strasse in Fürth. It is located in a former factory building. This building dates back to the mid-19th century. It is one of the last industrial buildings near Nuremberg.

Initially, mirrors were produced here. This was common in many Fürth factories. In 1931, BERMAS acquired the building. BERMAS was a suitcase factory founded in Fürth in 1919. They took over after a fire had left the mirror factory, Winkler & Kütt, empty and damaged.

During World War II, disaster struck. An air raid on February 20-21, 1945 severely damaged the building. The upper floors were almost completely destroyed. They have never been fully rebuilt.

In 1947, after partial reconstruction, a passage was made to the courtyard. This is now the main entrance to the Kofferfabrik. Production moved to Erbendorf. However, the headquarters and warehouse remained here until 1992. An investor bought the property, intending to speculate with it. But in 1994, the Kofferfabrik opened as a cultural center. It was initially planned as a temporary solution.

Today, the Kofferfabrik houses much more than just memories. It has a pub, a beer garden, an art gallery, and four stages. Local bands and projects are showcased. International concerts also take place here. You can hear jazz, classical, blues, and rock. National and international artists have graced its stages. Al Di Meola, Ginger Baker, and Steve Gibbons are some examples.

But that’s not all. The Kofferfabrik also hosts poetry slams and cabaret. Theater performances and readings add to the cultural mix. Harry Rowohlt and Matthias Egersdörfer have performed here. The pub quiz with Kevin Dardis is very popular. Expect there to be waiting lists.

The Kofferfabrik is a unique place. It combines subculture with a welcoming atmosphere. As one quote says: “The Kofferfabrik has the charm of subculture without the dirt and grime”. It is a place where everyone can feel at home. It unites diverse people of all ages.

The Kofferfabrik offers Franconian beers. These come from breweries like Schroll and Weißenohe. You can also find wines and teas from the local fair-trade shop. The menu features Mediterranean cuisine with vegetarian and vegan options. Every Sunday, there is an international brunch.

The Kofferfabrik is more than just a building. It’s a place of encounters and diversity. It is a place where people come together. They enjoy drinks, play games or take part in activities. It is a place filled with passion. So come along, eat, drink, and relax at the Kofferfabrik. It is a world of its own.
