Mesa View Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith. It reflects community and the unwavering spirit of its congregation. Let’s explore its story.
Mesa View’s story began with dedicated individuals. Deacon Joe Davis, Deacon Fred Ellis and Sister Renee Flenoid were key. Sister Betty Allen and Sister Dottie Taylor-Sauls also contributed. They laid the foundation for the church’s vibrant ministries.
Sunday school was established. Adult and Children’s Choir was important. Christian Enrichment and Discipleship Orientation were included. Women’s Mission, Brotherhood and Youth Ministry became involved. Children’s Worship and Ushers added to the experience. Deacons, Trustees, Scholarship and Benevolence were crucial. Audio, Home Bible Study and Mid-Week Prayer Meeting became ministries. Evangelism Ministry was also established.
Through the years, Mesa View was blessed. Reverend Clifford Barnes assisted. Reverend Willie Williams and Reverend Joseph Baker helped. Reverend Al Dillard and Reverend Oliver Garner joined. Reverend Chauvin Ferguson and Reverend Gary Phillips contributed.
Pastor Johnson led Mesa View for almost 10 years. In August 2001, he moved to his next assignment. The church prayed and stayed together. They sought a new pastor.
In May 2002, their prayers were answered. Dr. Darrow Perkins Jr. arrived. He was an Associate Minister at Linda Vista Second Baptist Church. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from the Marines in June 2003. Then he became the full-time pastor. His wife is Sister Teresa. They have three children: Stephanie, Tara and Darrow III.
Under Dr. Perkins’ leadership, Mesa View has grown. Disciples have been added. Converts have been baptized. His ministerial staff includes Reverend Joe Baker. Reverend Dewel Jamison and Reverend Damon Jefferson serve. Reverend Anthony Butler is also on staff.
Dr. Perkins is an author. He wrote “Principles of Kingdom Living.” He has written six other books.
He renewed his relationship with Christ in 1990. This happened at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Okinawa, Japan. He was ordained a Deacon in February 1991.
In August 1995, he joined Linda Vista Second Baptist Church. He served as a Sunday School Teacher. He was also Minister of Evangelism and Outreach. He became Pastor of Christian Education.
Since becoming pastor at Mesa View, God has enlarged their territory. They purchased their current church campus in Poway.
Dr. Perkins earned multiple degrees. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology. He has a Master’s Degree in Theology. He earned a Doctorate Degree in Theology. He also has a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Pastoral Leadership.
Dr. Perkins facilitates marriage enrichment conferences. He was an instructor for Immanuel Bible College. He has been a contributing writer. He is the General Secretary. He is Chairman of the Foreign Mission Board.
Dr. Perkins’ books cover Christian living. They include “Which Church Are You?” and “To Tithe or Not to Tithe?” He also wrote “There’s Power in His Name.”
Dr. Perkins retired from the U.S. Marine Corps. He served for 20 years. He received the Meritorious Service Medal. He earned Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals.
