Journey with me back to 1998. A vibrant energy filled the air as India’s former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, inaugurated the magnificent Iskon Temple. Officially known as the Sri Sri Radha Parthasarathi Mandir, the Iskon Temple stands proudly on Hare Krishna Hills in South Delhi. This temple isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a beacon of Vedic culture, a testament to the enduring legacy of Srila Prabhupada, the founder of the Hare Krishna movement. Srila Prabhupada’s journey began in Delhi, in the humble setting of Chhipiwada. There, amidst book publishers and bustling businesses, he meticulously translated the Srimad-Bhagavatam. He also crafted articles for his magazine, “Back to Godhead,” all while preparing for his pivotal journey to the West. Delhi held a special place in his heart, a starting point for his mission to spread the teachings of Lord Krishna. Years later, after returning to India, Srila Prabhupada recognized Delhi’s significance as a hub of education and international influence. He envisioned establishing a strong base of “life members” to support the growth of ISKCON. His vision materialized with the construction of the Iskon Temple, a project costing an estimated 12 crores rupees. Today, the Iskon Temple stands as a vibrant center for Bhakti Yoga, the practice of Krishna Consciousness. Within its walls, you’ll discover more than just a place of worship. The Glory of India Vedic Cultural Center uses multimedia technology to bring ancient texts to life. Imagine witnessing the Mahabharata and Ramayana unfold before your eyes, enriched by captivating paintings and interactive displays. The Iskon Temple even houses the “Astounding Bhagavad Gita,” the world’s largest printed religious text, weighing over 800 kilograms.
