From its humble beginnings in 1960 Peace & Goodwill Baptist Church has journeyed through Detroit’s vibrant history. Founded by Reverend Arthur J Dozier Jr as Murray Hill Missionary Baptist Church it initially had only one member Viola Harris. The church moved several times. It finally settled at its current location on Moross Road in 1994.
Peace & Goodwill Baptist Church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to faith perseverance and community. Imagine the dedication it took to move from a small congregation to the thriving church it is today. Think of the countless prayers shared within these walls.
The church changed its name to Peace & Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church in 1963 reflecting its mission. Pastor Dozier’s dream of a new church edifice culminated in a groundbreaking ceremony in 1968. This was followed by a move to a new building on Conner Avenue in 1971. The mortgage was paid off in 1977 a significant milestone for the growing community.
The church continued to grow and evolve. It paid off another mortgage in 2006 under the leadership of Reverend Herbert B Robinson Jr. The building on Moross Road has undergone improvements since 1994 including the addition of central air conditioning and a baptism pool. These additions show the church’s commitment to serving its community.
After Reverend Dozier’s passing in 1998 Reverend Mark Crawford Holloway became the third pastor in 2009. Peace & Goodwill Baptist Church continues to thrive. It stands as a beacon of hope faith and community spirit in Detroit. It remains a place of worship and spiritual growth.
