An extension was built ten years later adding six new classrooms. Still no sports hall existed then. Finally on February 16 1957 a sports hall was completed. Another new building was added in 1972. It provided four more classrooms. The schoolyard was improved in 1977. Play areas were painted. Table tennis tables were installed and trees were planted. New play and sports equipment were added over time. The workshop was renovated in 1981. The school kitchen was inaugurated in 1991. In recent years individual classrooms have been redesigned. The main entrance and schoolyard entrance were also renovated. The school is proud of its renovated sports hall. It has a new floor and lots of new equipment.
Today nearly 250 students attend the Grundschule Knauerstraße. This includes a preschool class. The staff includes fifteen teachers and the headmaster. The school secretary and caretaker are also vital parts of the school. The Schule Knauerstraße faces challenges with optimism. Many classrooms and special rooms are available in the afternoon. This is due to the open all-day school program.
