“What began as a humble wish to worship has blossomed into the vibrant parish we see today.” This is the story of Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Tân Cang. It stands as a testament to faith and community.
In 1972, some Catholics journeyed from Bùi Thái and Tam Hiệp. They sought to settle in Phước Tân. A year later, this small group erected a simple house of prayer. It had a thatched roof and leaf walls. This modest structure served as their place for prayer.
1976 marked a turning point for Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Tân Cang. Father Micae Trần Đình Cường Phụng of the Don Bosco order arrived. He dedicated himself to the spiritual life of the parishioners. That same year, the Tân Cang parish was officially established. A year later, Father Micae and the community built a semi-permanent church. This was a significant step forward. They celebrated its inauguration in 1979.
For ten years, Father Micae served the community. Later he returned to his religious order. During this time, the parish was without a resident priest. Thầy Gioan Nguyễn Văn Kích ensured the community did not suffer. He invited priests from nearby parishes to celebrate Mass. His dedication kept the community connected.
In 1991, Father Gioan Baotixita Đinh Tiến Hướng of Phú Sơn parish took over. He oversaw Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Tân Cang. Six years later, Father Gioan Baotixita and the community constructed a religious education center. This met the growing needs of the parish.
1999 saw Father Giuse Trần Văn Hàm appointed as the head of Long Thành district. He also took responsibility for Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Tân Cang. Due to his many duties and the distance, Father Giuse asked Father Gioan Nguyễn Văn Kích to care for the parish.
In 2010, Bishop Đaminh Nguyễn Chu Trinh appointed Father Antôn Đinh Quang Thái SDB. He took charge of the parish. Father Antôn and the community renovated monuments. They improved the rectory and cemetery. Thanks to God’s grace and Father Antôn’s guidance, the parish grew stronger. Their faith deepened. Their ministries became more organized.
The year 2015 brought new leadership. The parish joyfully welcomed Father Phanxicô Xaviê Trần Minh Quân. He became the new parish priest. He continues to guide the faithful of Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Tân Cang.
Today, Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Tân Cang thrives. It has expanded from that small prayer house to a vibrant center of faith. Neighboring Giang Điền borders it to the east. Thiện An lies to the west. Phú Sơn is to the south. Long Đức II is to the north. The parish covers 36.5 hectares. Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Tân Cang continues to serve as a spiritual home. It is a testament to faith and community.
