Nhà Thờ Thánh Mẫu

From its humble beginnings, Nhà Thờ Thánh Mẫu has blossomed into a vibrant spiritual center. This isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to faith, resilience, and the unwavering devotion of the Legion of Mary. Nestled within the Sao Mai parish, Nhà Thờ Thánh Mẫu serves as the chapel for this dedicated group. The Legion of Mary itself has a rich history, dating back to 1563 in Rome. Their mission is one of service and societal betterment. They strive for personal sanctification while contributing to the greater good. In 1955, Father Pham Ngoc Chi brought this mission to Vietnam. He inspired the formation of Legion of Mary groups across the southern dioceses. That same year, the group received permission to construct a meeting place. In 1966, under Father Giacôbê’s guidance, the Legion purchased land. This land, 700 square meters, became the foundation of their new home. By 1960, their humble meeting place had become the official Nhà Nguyện. Archbishop Mario Brini consecrated it under the name Đức Mẹ Vô Nhiễm. In 1977, Archbishop Phaolô Nguyễn Văn Bình officially recognized Nhà Nguyện as Nhà Thờ Thánh Mẫu. The journey of Nhà Thờ Thánh Mẫu has been one of constant growth and adaptation. Renovations, additions, and repairs mark its timeline. A new wing for nuns was added in 1992. A protective canopy was erected in 2000. The roof was repaired in 2003. A new meeting hall was constructed in 2005. Each change reflects the evolving needs of the community. Yet, the core mission of faith and service remains constant. Today, Nhà Thờ Thánh Mẫu continues to be a hub of spiritual activity. The Legion of Mary holds meetings here. Catechism classes take place regularly. Mass is celebrated, bringing together parishioners and visitors alike. The spirit of devotion, service, and community that began in Rome centuries ago continues to thrive here at Nhà Thờ Thánh Mẫu.
