Hidden amongst the Dublin countryside lies Springhill a small community steeped in history. Springhill’s name whispers of a freshwater spring once bubbling at its heart. Imagine the Monks family their presence echoing through generations. They once owned much of Springhill’s land. Over time they gradually gave it away. Yet a part of Springhill still bears their mark.

The Ennis house stands tall a testament to Springhill’s past. An affluent home on Springhill’s eastern side. The Ennis family once called it home. Later the Rock family lovingly renovated this 18th century Georgian farmhouse. They restored its elegance and charm before selling it to its current inhabitants. It remains Springhill’s oldest and largest landmark.

Springhill itself is a tiny cluster of houses. Six houses are nestled together. Four homes perch on the main hill all connected through the Monks family lineage. Two semi-detached bungalows stand on the upper hill. A single detached bungalow sits beside them. Another detached bungalow rests on the lower part. Beyond this cluster stands the grand Ennis house. A small cottage sits to the west. Another two-story house hides down a lane next to the Ennis house. Picture this scene Springhill’s hill is adorned with lovely gardens. It is quite picturesque.

Nearby are other notable places. Wyanstown House a large and wealthy estate stands nearby. The Grallagh graveyard a place of quiet reflection also lies close. Springhill has two essential facilities. A Montessori school educates young minds. A stud farm with its own racetrack sits north of Springhill on the road to Garristown.

Springhill’s story is one of family legacy. Of a community bound by history and nature. It is a small corner of County Dublin. Yet it holds a rich and captivating past. A past that is alive in its architecture its tranquil gardens and the stories whispered by its ancient spring. It is a place worth discovering.
