Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church’s journey began in the Piney Point community. A group of devoted Christians, led by Rev. Max Austin and Sister Hannah Rasmus, purchased land for $1.50 an acre. Their vision became reality in the spring of 1865 when the first church building opened its doors. Over the years, Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church changed locations twice to accommodate its growing congregation. Each move symbolized its enduring commitment to serving God and the community.
The church we see today is a testament to the leadership of Pastor C.G. Wilkins. During his 45-year tenure, the current edifice was built, and countless souls were guided on their spiritual journeys. His legacy lives on through his son, Rev. Daymond A. Wilkins, who now leads the congregation as Pastor. Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church continues to be a place where faith flourishes.
