The school’s motto, ROAR, embodies the values it instills: Responsibility, On Time, Attitude, and Respect. San Ysidro High School has also faced challenges. In 2015, the school was disrupted by two bomb threats, prompting lockdowns and evacuations. Thankfully, no hazards were found. Later that year, two teenage boys were questioned about a potential assault on the school, highlighting the complex issues facing the community. In 2019, valedictorian Nataly Buhr delivered a powerful speech that resonated far beyond the school’s walls. Her candid critique of school staff garnered national attention and sparked important conversations about student advocacy. San Ysidro High School is also a place of achievement. The men’s basketball team clinched the CIF Division 3 Championship in 2020. The CougarBots robotics team consistently competes at the VEX Robotics World Competition, demonstrating the school’s commitment to STEM education.
