“Exclusive residential section.” That phrase reveals a troubled past associated with Nishuane Park. But today, Nishuane Park is a vibrant space for everyone. Nishuane Park was established in 1895. This makes it one of the oldest parks in New Jersey. The renowned Olmsted Brothers designed it. Parks are important. Jacob Riis visited the Commonwealth Club days before the election. He endorsed the parks proposal. He said the country expects Montclair to provide both parks and playgrounds for the people. Vigorous debate led to a large voter turnout that day in 1906.

Nishuane Park has rules. Cooking is not permitted. Glass containers are prohibited. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited too. Dogs are not permitted to be off-leash. This does not apply to areas specifically designated as a dog park.
