Whispers from the past echo through the trees here at Parc Bertrand. This park is more than just a green space. It is a tapestry woven with history and nature.

Parc Bertrand offers a beautiful setting. Children play and families relax here. It is located on the edge of the Florissant district in Champel.

Once, this land was sinister. In the 17th century, Champel was outside Geneva’s walls. Political opponents faced execution here. Witches were burned. Imagine the chilling scenes from centuries ago. This park now stands where darkness once reigned.

But times changed. By the late 18th century, wealthy families moved in. They built beautiful villas surrounded by greenery. Champel transformed into a chic neighborhood.

The park owes its name to Alfred Bertrand. He was a photographer and explorer. His family acquired the estate in the 19th century. Alfred’s widow, Alice Noerbel, donated it to Geneva. She gave part of it in 1933 and the rest in 1940. This act created a green haven for everyone.

Parc Bertrand is now 110,823 square meters. It features diverse trees and lawns. An alley of willows borders a pond. Himalayan birches and redwood trees add to the beauty. Pines, plane trees, and lime trees also thrive here. The park manages its biodiversity ecologically.

Today, Parc Bertrand is full of activities. Children can enjoy slides and sandpits. There are movement games and sports fields. Urban fitness areas and ping-pong tables are available. A wading pool is open for children under seven.

Near the park is the École Bertrand. It was once the Bertrand family’s building. In 2004, the school became a kindergarten. The park also has a dog park and a Japanese garden. You can also find a small cascade and a stream.

The park is open 24 hours a day and access is free. It provides a space for relaxation and recreation. You can reach Parc Bertrand easily by bus. Several bus stops are nearby.

Consider the journey of this place. From a site of executions to a haven of peace. Parc Bertrand stands as a testament to transformation. It’s a place where nature and history intertwine. Take a moment to appreciate the beauty and tranquility. Remember the stories whispered by the trees.
