Tucked away on Rue Schaub, the Église Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue whispers tales of Geneva’s past. This neo-Gothic gem, built between 1898 and 1899, isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a time capsule, holding within its walls the echoes of a century of history. The Église Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue first opened its doors after Bishop Déruaz laid the foundation stone in June 1898. A little over a year later, in October 1899, he consecrated the church, marking the beginning of its spiritual journey. The vibrant stained-glass windows, chosen by Father L. Jeantet, were crafted in Bruges by the renowned Dobbelaere workshop. Their light dances across the main altar, a masterpiece by the Bianchi house of Carouge. In 1922, the church’s voice found its instrument. A grand organ was installed, filling the space with sacred melodies. The Église Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue continued to evolve with the times. In 1970, renovations breathed new life into the building, adapting it to the liturgical changes brought about by the Second Vatican Council. The organ, too, was lovingly restored, ensuring its music continued to resonate through the decades. As the 20th century drew to a close, the Église Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue celebrated its centennial anniversary. The organ was once again restored in 1999, its harmonies a tribute to a century of faith and community.
