“Four thousand, seven hundred and seventy-five students!” North Shore Senior High School, the largest high school in Greater Houston as of 2019, has seen its fair share of students walk through its halls. Established in 1962, North Shore Senior High School initially served grades 10 and 11, as was common in Texas at the time. However, as the years passed and the school thrived, it expanded to encompass grades 9 through 12. The school proudly claims the title of the largest in the Texas Education Agency Education Service Center Region 4. The campus we see today wasn’t always the only one. In 1999, a new, larger campus was built about 1.5 miles north, leading to a division of grades. The original campus became home to grades 9 and 10, while the new campus housed grades 11 and 12. Later, in 2008, all 10th graders were moved to the newer campus, and the original building was designated the North Shore 9th Grade Center. The school continued to grow, and in 2018, a dedicated North Shore 10th Grade Center was established. North Shore Senior High School is not just about academics. The school boasts a vibrant athletic program. Its sports teams, known as the Mustangs, compete in a variety of UIL sports, including baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming, diving, tennis, track and field, and even water polo. The school has a history of athletic success, particularly in basketball. The boys’ basketball team has clinched the state championship title multiple times, securing victories in 1990, 1991, 1997, and 2014. North Shore Senior High School isn’t just a place of learning; it’s a breeding ground for future stars.
