“Is this where it all began?” I ask. This is 大阪市立木川南小学校. It stands as a testament to Osaka’s commitment to education.

Let’s delve into the story of this school. It began as a branch of Osaka City Kikawa Elementary School. This happened in 1959. The school was created because of the growing number of students.

In 1960, it became independent. It was then named Osaka City Kikawa Minami Elementary School. The school’s history reflects the changing needs of the community.

The school established its school badge in May 1960. A school song followed in February 1961. The official opening ceremony took place in March 1961. This day is now celebrated as the school’s anniversary.

Interestingly, part of the school grounds was reduced in November 1963. The land was transferred to the Osaka City Cleaning Bureau now the Environmental Bureau.

In April 1975, classes for children with special needs were established. In October 1978, the school received recognition. The Minister of Education commended its school lunch program.

Osaka City Board of Education designated the school as a research school. This was for mathematics in November 1995. The school then conducted research presentations.

大阪市立木川南小学校 also serves as a center. It supports children who have returned from abroad. These children need Japanese language instruction. Students attend Japanese classes here a few times per week. They remain enrolled in their local schools. The school also provides educational counseling. This is for the teachers of these returning students.

The school’s location is in Kikawa Higashi, Higashiyodogawa Ward, Osaka City. The students generally progress to Osaka City Juso Junior High School after graduation.

大阪市立木川南小学校 has a motto. It promotes healthy bodies. It fosters gentle hearts.
